"A pequena aldeia parecia abandonada. Não se via vivalma, o silêncio era absoluto. Subitamente, os sinos da igreja começaram a tocar, fazendo-me saltar. Voltei-me de frente para a igreja, reparando pela primeira vez na natureza que me envolvia. As árvores, cujos ramos se torciam em ângulos complicados estavam mortas, desnudas da sua beleza. Fui invadido por uma sensação inquietante, algo não estava bem."
